about Haicu webdesign

Haicu Webdesign is run by Han Hegeman. I began designing and building websites focused on sustainability and environmental issues in 1995. Over the years, I have worked with various content management systems, including Cobra, Joomla, and Drupal. Since 2008, I have specialized in creating websites with WordPress, a platform that is both user-friendly and highly versatile, allowing me to deliver solutions tailored to each client’s needs.

Why Haicu?

The name Haicu is inspired by the Japanese nature poem, haiku. These poems evoke vivid images of nature in just a few lines, demonstrating how beauty and clarity can be expressed with simplicity. I strive to bring this same balance of elegance and simplicity to my web design work.

WordPress Community

WordPress has a large community of people who help with its development. This includes not only programming WordPress and plugins, but also many other areas, such as translation, support, design, content, and marketing. I regularly collaborate with others who are also active in the WordPress community.

Partners

I also collaborate with partners in design, strategy, communication, advertising, content editing, video, photography, online marketing, and hosting. Some partners I regularly work with:

Socially Progressive Entrepreneurship

Haicu web design is committed to a sustainable world. This is guided by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as agreed upon by all member countries of the United Nations for 2030.

Therefore, I prefer to work for organizations that operate sustainably, creatively, and socially, both non-profits and businesses. See my portfolio.

I also regularly contribute to sustainable projects voluntarily. For example, I blogged for 10 years about organic, sustainable, and fair-trade products and services. I worked on the Women on Wings website for several years and have helped many entrepreneurs in developing countries get started with microcredit through Kiva and Zidisha.

Supporting the FairSpirit Foundation

Haicu Webdesign sponsors the FairSpirit foundation, an organization dedicated to advocating for a basic income as a tool to reduce poverty and inequality—directly contributing to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal Number 1: eradicating poverty in all its forms. The foundation is known for its innovative approaches, such as pilot projects and basic income groups, and supports promising initiatives like GoodDollar and Circles to make universal basic income more accessible.

Tangible Contributions

Each year, Haicu Webdesign contributes at least 1% of its annual revenue to FairSpirit’s projects. This ongoing commitment supports small-scale, bottom-up basic income initiatives that can be expanded and replicated for lasting impact. By doing so, Haicu Webdesign not only enhances its social impact but also reinforces its core values of sustainability and community support.

Why This Matters

  • Advancing SDG 1: Fighting poverty enhances progress toward other global goals and fosters sustainable development.
  • Empowering Communities: Financial support for FairSpirit enables more people to participate in basic income pilots, helping identify effective strategies for poverty alleviation.
  • Corporate Responsibility: Dedicating a portion of business revenue to social causes demonstrates a proactive, purpose-driven business model.
